Interlibrary Loan Service

Borrow Material, Suggest New Titles, and Track Requests

In some cases, materials may be photocopied instead of sent physically. If you don't find what you need, submit a blank request using the appropriate button below.

This collective catalog of all Louisiana parishes is provided by the State Library of Louisiana.

Local authors may submit their work for consideration in our collection by submitting this form.

Request Items Through Loanshark

Access the LoanSHARK portal and login using your library card number as your username and your PIN as your password. Under Select Your Library, make sure W1CC – Calcasieu Public Library is the default. Choose Submit to continue. Use search bar to find the item you want to request. Results are displayed in an accessible format compatible with screen readers. Once you locate the item, select Request This Item, review the request details on the screen, then when ready, click Submit to complete your request.

Notes: If using a public computer, don't forget to logoff. Logging in with your library card and PIN will automatically create a LoanSHARK account. Please ensure your library account is in good standing before placing a request.

View Requests and Status

Users can track their interlibrary loan requests independently or with staff assistance.

Log in to LoanSHARK.
Visit the LoanSHARK portal and log in using your credentials. 

Navigate to Your Account

Select Your Account, then choose Items From Other Libraries.

Track Your Requests
From this section, you can view all current requests and monitor their status.


Request Limits

Users may have up to fifty (50) active requests at any given time. You will receive an alert once you reach this limit. Even if you've reached your request limit, you can continue to search within LoanSHARK. You also have the option to create lists for future requests. An active request begins when it is submitted and remains active until the lending library receives the item and checks it back in through LoanSHARK. 

Item Availability Limitations

The Library follows professional standards and selection criteria to build a collection that serves our community’s informational and leisure needs. We apply the same criteria to all suggestions and interlibrary loan requests. 

Occasionally, we may be unable to complete a request. Common reasons include item availability, no participating library currently has the item available for loan, or vendor limitations, whiich prevents us from purchasing or borrowing it.

Eligibility Requirements

Access to this service is limited. It is not available for temporary accounts, online accounts that have not been upgraded to full-service status, and non-Calcasieu residents (unless you have an LSW card and are using it within Calcasieu Parish). Additionally, your library card must be in good standing to use this service. If your card is blocked, please contact the library for assistance.


Item Not Found in Catalog or LoanSHARK

You can request or suggest an item for purchase, and we’ll do our best to add it to the collection.

Submit a request:

Log in to LoanSHARK using your library card number and PIN to establish your account.
Select the Blank ILL Request option, located near the top left corner of the LoanSHARK homepage.
Submit the completed form.

Physical Format Options

Search the Library Catalog
If the title isn’t available, use LoanSHARK to complete a blank request form. This allows you to request or suggest an item for purchase, and we’ll do our best to add it to the collection.

How to Submit a Request in LoanSHARK
Log in using your library card number and PIN to establish your account.
Select Blank ILL Request, located near the top left corner of the LoanSHARK homepage.
Complete and submit the form.


Digital Format Options

A. If You Know the Title

Perform a title search in the Libby App. For example, search for The Midnight Train.
In the search results, scroll down to find the Deep Search button. These titles exist in Libby’s catalog but haven’t been purchased yet. 
For a desired title, tap Notify Me. If we purchase it later, you’ll be notified.

B. If the Title Isn’t in the Libby App (Even After Deep Search)

Try Hoopla, another app with eBooks and audiobooks. FYI, hoopla sometimes duplicates Libby titles and sometimes offers unique ones.
With Hoopla, you have access to everything in its catalog.
Visit the website directly or download the app from your app store. Logo for the Apple App Store used for app downloads on iOS devices Logo for the Google Play Store used for downloading apps on Android devices. Logo for the Amazon Appstore used for downloading apps on Fire and Android devices.

C. If Options A and B Don’t Apply

1. Use LoanSHARK to complete a blank request form for an eBook or audiobook format. Log in using your library card number and PIN to establish your account. Select Blank ILL Request, located near the top left corner of the LoanSHARK homepage. Complete and submit the form.
